A hybrid inverter is an all-in-one device that combines the functions of a solar inverter and a battery inverter in a single unit. As a hybrid solar inverter, it converts DC power from solar panels into AC electricity for on-site use or grid export, while also storing excess energy in batteries for later use.

Unlike traditional inverters, hybrid inverters support multiple operating modes, including self-consumption, grid-tied operation, and backup power during grid outages. How Does a Hybrid Inverter Work?

A hybrid solar inverter manages the flow of electricity between solar panels, batteries, household loads, and the utility grid. Solar panels generate DC power, which the inverter converts into AC electricity for immediate use in the home or for grid export.

  • When solar generation exceeds consumption, excess energy is stored directly in the battery as DC power, minimizing conversion losses.
