Hotels and commercial buildings in Austria and across Europe need to balance everyday energy costs with reliable power for critical operations. Elevators, fire protection systems, central air conditioning, access control, and payment systems may all depend on continuous electricity. An appropriately configured energy storage system design can combine peak-valley energy management with emergency power support, helping commercial facilities address both operational and backup power requirements.

ToggleThe Critical Impact of Short Power Interruptions and the Limits of Traditional Backup Power
In commercial buildings and high-end resort hotels in Austria and Europe, electrical loads are highly complex and sensitive. Elevators, fire protection systems, central air conditioning, guest-room access control, and front-end payment systems are all considered critical loads that cannot be interrupted. Even a brief power outage or voltage sag lasting only a few seconds can cause elevators to trap passengers, systems to restart, data to be lost, and other serious operational incidents and reputational damage.
Traditional solutions often have to make a trade-off. Conventional commercial and industrial battery energy storage systems (BESS) generally focus on peak-valley electricity price arbitrage and cannot provide millisecond-level support when the grid fails. Traditional uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), while capable of maintaining power, cannot perform high-power charge and discharge scheduling to help hotels reduce their electricity costs.
YUNT Solution: Combining Peak-Valley Management with Millisecond-Level Backup
The engineering objective of a hotel microgrid is to break down the boundary between energy storage and UPS functions, using one system to address both daily energy management and emergency backup power. YUNT advocates a coordinated architecture based on tiered load design and STS static switching.
Daily peak-valley management: Under normal grid conditions, the PCS energy storage converter performs peak shaving and valley filling according to Austria’s dynamic electricity pricing. It charges during periods of low nighttime electricity prices and discharges during daytime peak-demand periods, substantially reducing the hotel’s electricity bill.
Rapid backup takeover: When a grid fault occurs, the system’s built-in STS (static transfer switch) rapidly disconnects the main-grid connection and achieves seamless power transfer in less than 10 ms, ensuring that critical loads experience no interruption in power supply.
Fine-grained load classification: An energy storage microgrid is not an unlimited UPS. We assist EPCs in physically classifying loads so that, during a power outage, stored energy is prioritized for core security and life-support systems rather than non-critical loads such as landscape lighting.
For this type of application, static transfer switches provide the rapid switching function needed to coordinate critical loads with the energy storage system.
125kW Customized Backup Microgrid Architecture
Based on the hotel’s space constraints and load characteristics, we provide a highly integrated electrical hub design using a standardized 125kW/258kWh energy storage cabinet architecture.
The system can be equipped with the Neptune-P series cabinet with a built-in isolation transformer, directly enhancing electrical isolation protection for sensitive equipment. PCS modules perform rapid bidirectional energy conversion, while STS modules serve as the millisecond-level switching gateway.
When a grid failure occurs, critical loads remain powered without interruption, helping the hotel pass through the power outage with minimal disruption to its operations.
